GateSort: Support
GateSort sorts horse show photos by rider on a Mac (macOS 14 Sonoma or later). Find your question below, or get in touch at the bottom of the page.
How it works
- Photos: insert the card (GateSort offers to copy it to your Mac) or open a show folder. Start a new camera folder (101, 102, …) for each rider, in the order of go.
- Draw Sheet: drop the draw sheet: a PDF or photo of the printed sheet (read on your Mac), a CSV, or pasted text. Check the names in the table.
- Review & Apply: click Name Folders & Mark Red. Each rider's JPEGs are copied into “Class/101 Horse - Rider”, the RAW files stay in the camera folders, and blurry shots and duplicates get a red label that shows in Finder and Lightroom.
Frequently asked questions
Does GateSort ever delete photos?
No. It copies, renames folders (if you choose that in Settings) and adds labels. Undo All puts everything back. Copies it made are moved to the Trash only while the original is still in its camera folder.
A rider was scratched. What happens to the numbers?
Leave an empty camera folder for the scratched rider, as usual: GateSort names it “Empty” and every later rider keeps the right number. If a folder seems to hold two riders (a long pause in the middle), GateSort shows a card so you can check before naming.
Where are the RAW files?
In the original camera folders, untouched. Find a Rider's Photos (⌘F) shows the named folder, the RAW files and the ShootProof album for a rider, horse, class or photo number.
How do I upload to ShootProof?
Review › More › Make ShootProof Upload Folders… makes a folder tree (letter › rider › horse, or one level “Horse_Last, First”) with copies of the photos that aren't red. Upload that folder to your ShootProof event as nested albums. GateSort does not sign in to ShootProof.
The red labels or stars don't show in Lightroom.
Lightroom reads the .xmp file next to a RAW, but for JPEGs only what is inside the file. Review › More › Write Stars for Lightroom puts the best-shot stars in the RAW's .xmp file and inside the JPEG copies, and can put the red label inside the JPEG copies too (Settings › Best Shots › Lightroom). If the photos were imported already, select them in Lightroom Classic and choose Metadata › Read Metadata from Files. A rating you gave yourself is never changed.
GateSort can't open my card or folder.
Mac apps from the App Store can read only what you choose. Click Allow when GateSort asks to read the card, or open the folder again with Open Folder (⌘O).
